CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Leon Scott Kennedy
CANON: Resident Evil
HISTORY: Link to RE Wiki
STRENGTHS: Brave: Leon Kennedy has faced countless lethal threats in his life, all of them of the Bio-organic variety. Many of these threats are extremely lethal, often only requiring one mistake to cause infection and death. Yet, despite this, Leon never seems to blink at danger; he's cautious and prudent enough to survive, but isn't spooked by anything from zombies, to Lickers, to the mighty and imposing Mr. X, Verdugo, or even a man who mutated into an armored T-Rex B.O.W. (Yes, Resident Evil 6 is a stupid, stupid game.)
Adaptable: Many a times, Leon starts in these situations poorly armed and equipped, usually only with a handgun and a combat knife. Despite being horribly under-armed for many of the situations he finds himself in, Leon makes good use of whatever weapons he can find, as well as using his environment at times when opportunities present themselves. This also includes changing his tactics on the fly, which can include performing vicious physical attacks on stunned foes to save ammo or clear space.
Savvy: Despite being a rookie in Resident Evil 2, Leon actually survives several puzzles and traps designed by Umbrella, and furthermore continues this through RE4 and RE6. He's quick to ascertain what he might need in a situation to bypass whatever's blocking his way. Moreover, he's fairly quick to identify the weaknesses of his foes, even as a rookie cop fresh out of the academy. Moreover, when he was detained by the US Government following the events of Raccoon City, he rather cleverly omitted mentioning Ada Wong (who he thought was dead) or Claire Redfield from his story, knowing it could bring trouble to the latter if he had.
FLAWS: Naive: Leon tends to be a bit too trusting, and while he isn't helplessly gullible, his good nature and inexperience generally can blind him to deception with a good cover. This is most illustrated with his trust in and relationship with Ada Wong. Though he grows out of the worst of his naivete by RE4 and RE6, its ramifications still are in place: he still seems to carry some sort of torch for Ada, despite by now knowing full well she's a mercenary for the highest bidder.
Straight-Laced: Leon is pretty by the book in his behavior as a police officer (albeit for the one day he is) and he's still so as a government agent by the time of RE4, though by RE6 he's a little more flexible when it comes to bending the rules. Most notable is that when confronted with Ben in the jail of RE2, Leon notes he has to check with Chief Irons to see if he should deal with Ben, even though Ben warns him that Irons is a dirty cop.
Can't Let Go Of His Past: Leon has a lot of difficulties moving on with his life after what happened in Raccoon City; part of this is due to the career path he was offered. Like it or not, surviving Raccoon City came to define him, which led to him becoming one of the US's most talented anti-BOW field agents. But his single-minded dedication to wiping out bioterror has left him married to his job, despite the exhaustion and mental difficulties with it. He also can't seem to let go of Ada Wong, for better or worse. His relationship with the spy femme fatale isn't what one could call healthy or normal, but he seems to stubbornly cling to it for reasons known only to himself, and it too holds him back from moving on with a more normal life.
CANON ABILITIES: Leon is as vanilla as they come, but he's a Badass Normal archetype through and through. In RE2, all Leon had to his name was his police training, skill in firearms, and his wits. Most of his abilities there were solving puzzles and shooting B.O.W.s and zombies with whatever weapons he had at hand, and dodging the rest.
By the time of RE4, Leon received a great deal of government agent training, significantly improving his aim, and giving him many more close-quarters options, including mastery of some forms of marital arts and a master of knife-fighting.
To go with it all, Leon has nearly tireless stamina, letting him see through long, intense missions without suffering the effects of fatigue or injury. Even prior to his government training, Leon pushed through his trials in Raccoon City with a bullet wound in his shoulder, suggesting the man had quite extensive pain tolerance and endurance.
Beyond that, though, Leon has no other powers, unless you count his ability to give a dumb one-liner wisecrack at the drop of a hat.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: (This can be the same as canon name if appropriate)
AGE: 23
GRADE: "Graduate"
AU BACKSTORY: Leon Scott Kennedy grew up with a shockingly normal life in the Midwestern USA. An excellent student and an athlete, Leon had quite a potential life ahead of him. An idealist and community minded individual, Leon decided to enlist into the Raccoon City Police Department after graduating college. Part of this was hearing the impressive tales of the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad, or S.T.A.R.S., Raccoon City's legendary police unit. He enrolled into the police academy right after his college graduation, and graduated wit high marks, looking like he would be a promising recruit for the city.
And then Leon arrived for his first day on the job at the RPD.
It started out reasonably enough. The first day was mostly a meet and greet, showing him his desk, running through responsibilities and other general basics, until toward the end of the day he was ordered to ride along with another officer on a patrol beat in a quiet part of town. It should've been a two hour ride around. But things have a funny way of swerving hard.
An emergency call came in from a warehouse deep in the industrial district. The caller's voice was a woman, but the distress call came through garbled, and most of the message was unclear. Leon and his fellow officer's squad car was the closest, and they went to investigate. Things appeared quiet on the outside, but when they went to seek the individuals inside, things quickly took a turn. The door locked behind them as they came in; a curiously sophisticated electronic lock that left them stuck inside... and an alert went on through the warehouse's loudspeaker: a level 4 biohazard outbreak, and only administrator clearance could override the locks. Unable to escape and their radios jammed, they had no other choice but to move through the facility to try to find a way out.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long before Leon and his superior were set upon by zombies, many of whom dressed in the staff clothing of the Umbrella Corporation, a big pharma company. Leon's fellow officer was quickly killed and eaten by the zombies, leaving Leon to descend deeper into this facility himself in desperate hope of escape. The facility itself proved extremely hostile and dangerous, but Leon pressed on, through the warehouse and its offices, into a sewer system, and deeper still into an underground bioweapons laboratory run by Umbrella. As he went, he encountered a handful of other survivors, most of whom helped him. A young woman separated from her brother, who was a S.T.A.R.S. member; a young girl who was the daughter of the chief researchers in the facility, an investigative reporter, and a mysterious woman in a red dress who claimed to be FBI.
Leon's journey was treacherous. Turned out, the zombies were the least of his worries. Those, Lickers, horribly mutated creatures, and an eight-foot tall monstrosity with a massive clawed arm... they were but a few of the creatures he encountered in the depths. Investigation of various files and computers revealed what they were; byproducts of a viral weapon, and then infused with something called "daemonic essence." These creatures were part of Umbrella's research into Bio-Organic Weapons, and improving upon them. The "T-Virus," as it was called by Umbrella, represented the pinnacle of biological weapons, and it mixed with a "G-Infusion" made the resulting creatures far, far more lethal. It sounded unbelievable, and worse yet, it looked like if these creatures escaped into Raccoon City there would be a catastrophic outbreak, as the viral weapon passed through bites and other means. And to make matters worse, Leon uncovered evidence that Police Chief Brian Irons was in league with the Umbrella operation, having covered up information surrounding missing persons in Raccoon City. It meant even if he escaped, Irons would have his badge, and probably his head if he came public with what happened.
Eventually, Leon was confronted by the horribly mutated form of the chief researcher, and then a horrible monster codenamed "Mr. X," the Super Tyrant. He managed to defeat both, using nothing more than the weapons he collected in the facility. Unfortunately, that didn't solve his problem of escaping, considering both chief researchers perished and their administration passwords went with them.
But Leon's luck finally turned around. Shortly after defeating Super Tyrant, new forces swept into the facility and started destroying the monsters there. Leon initially kept a low profile to avoid the newcomers, fearful that they might be some sort of PMC or "cleaner" crew. He successfully avoided detection for awhile, until he was jumped by another Tyrant. The din of the battle drew the newcomers' attention, who came upon Leon in mid battle against the monster.
The new forces intervened into the battle, quickly dispatching the Tyrant with a mixture of weapons and magic, the likes of which Leon had never seen. The commander of the unit identified themselves as belonging to Daybreak Academy, and explained the situation... to a completely baffled and floored man who just stepped inside the Veil for the first time. The away team refused to believe Leon at first when he told him what he had been doing in the facility, and only changed their tune when they saw the security footage back Leon's story. It didn't seem possible for a rookie officer to end up in this facility, survive it, and kill scores of zombies monsters, and dangerous threats like the Super Tyrant on their own with mundane weapons... but there it was.
Stunned, the unit commander made a decision to offer Leon a rescue and sanctuary in Daybreak Academy, along with an offer to join. Exhausted, confused, and seeing little choice, Leon accepted the offer, returning with the away team to enroll in the Academy and see just how big the world really was.
The coverup surrounding the Warehouse Incident was reported to the RPD as fact, with the officer who was eaten listed as KIA by an unknown assailant, and rookie officer Kennedy was officially listed as a missing person. And for now, it would have to stay that way... but Leon fully intended to bring Chief Irons and Umbrella to justice one day. But that would have to wait, as another apocalyptic event lurked around the corner... something called Nightfall, Heralded by horrors that had to be stopped at all costs.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: By and large, Leon's personality is pretty much exactly the same as his canon counterpart barring three things: Raccoon City not being fully zombified and eventually nuked will not leave Leon with exactly the same baggage. Instead, he learned how an outbreak was held off by the fraying threads of himself and his fellow survivors in the facility, and he's thankful it didn't come to that. Still, he walked through plenty of horrors himself that night...
And that leads to the second point: Leon is now acutely aware that the mundane life he once lived, and that the world is much, much more complicated than it looked. The world of the supernatural now open before him, Leon is now confronted with its infinite and complex nature. He's now confronted with the moral quandaries involving keeping the supernatural secret, while also fighting to keep humankind safe.
The third difference is Leon was headhunted by Daybreak Academy instead of the US Government. This will lead him to being more loyal to humankind as a whole, as well as the Academy, rather than the United States strictly speaking. While Leon still loves the USA, loyalty to one nation has to take a back seat to save humankind as a whole.
RACE: Human
SECRET SOCIETY: None
POWERS: At time of apping, Leon has no special powers. He's a badass normal human, though he shows a nearly prodigal level ability to fight monsters and daemons, despite only standard police training. Having defeated many threats with nothing but that training and a handful of mundane weapons in the Umbrella Lab before being rescued, is about the only "power" he can claim to have.
He will, however, begin an accelerated course in runic inscription and basic elemental and enhancement magic upon acceptance.

INTERVIEW SAMPLE
3. WHAT KIND OF TASKS DO YOU WANT OR EXPECT TO DO HERE?
I want to learn more about what I've gotten myself into. I have to know about what the world actually is. And I expect that I'll be going through a lot of training, and then put into tasks where I use that training. Be it going into the field or teaching others those lessons and what I have experienced myself. ...Even if it's not much yet.
4. DESCRIBE YOUR COMMUNICATION STYLE AND YOUR CONDUCT AROUND BOTH FACULTY AND CURRENT STUDENTS.
Um, I'm not sure what you mean by this. Beyond being professional and cordial? I'd just prefer to be as honest and direct as possible, while still maintaining proper decorum. ...And being constructive and supportive of younger students?
5. WOULD YOU BE COMFORTABLE WITH MENTORING CURRENT STUDENTS OR ACTING IN AN ADVISORY ROLE?
Eventually, I think, but... I'm still a rookie to this whole... everything. But I wouldn't mind doing that once I'm more up to speed.
6. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR A SCHOOL TO PROVIDE TO ITS STUDENTS?
A well balanced education that makes good, knowledgeable citizens. Beyond that, a safe environment for them to learn it all in.
7. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS WHO ARE DEFIANT, ACTING OUT, OR OTHERWISE AT ODDS WITH PARTS OF SCHOOL LIFE?
That'd depend on why or how they're acting out. I'd try to find out why they're acting that way and tailor my advice accordingly. That stuff's not really a one-size-fits-all. I'd try to be supportive, suggesting courses of action they could take and respecting their independence. ...And if I'm out of ideas, I'd refer to them to guidance professionals.
8. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING OR DEPRESSED?
That they're not alone, and they don't have to be alone in their suffering. Offer them a shoulder to lean on the way I could. And then suggest talking to a professional if the feelings are deep seated. I... don't really have mental health training, so there's only so much I can do, and I'd rather not do harm through ignorance either.
9. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON A STUDENT SHOULD LEAVE WITH?
That the world's a big, complex place. Your understanding is always limited and colored by your own experiences, and there will always be more to learn. You're never truly done learning, as long as you remain open to it.
10. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WERE TAUGHT BEFORE YOU GRADUATED?
In college? Understanding that things are not always cut and dry. I had a professor once tell me that Justice is blind, but she's not deaf. People have all kinds of motives and reasons for doing things, and mercy and understanding should be part of how law enforcement conducts itself.
...Also that one should always follow the evidence, and when the facts change, your views should grow to match. "Changing your mind when the facts evolve is not a sign of weakness," was how that they put it.
11. IF YOU COULD TELL CURRENT STUDENTS ONE THING ON GRADUATING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Knowledge is power, but power is best served in service of others. Helping those who are in need, victims of those who would abuse their own power. The only way things will get better is to choose to stand for something bigger than just yourself.
14. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH? IS IT DIFFERENT TO WHAT YOU THOUGHT IT WAS AS A STUDENT?
Adaptability? In school and training I was a pretty quick learner. Guess that's what saved my life before your away team found me. Maybe I can apply that to the academy's teachings too.
15. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS? AGAIN, IS IT DIFFERENT TO WHAT YOU THOUGHT IT WAS AS A STUDENT?
...Inexperience and ignorance. Most of my life so far has been school and study. And my first practical run was... well, the Warehouse and Umbrella Lab. And I was only a cop for one day. And now I'm in this entire world I didn't know existed. Considering magic, monsters, and everything is something I thought was only in stories until a recently, I only have so much to work with. There's a lot left for me to learn, as it turns out. Hopefully I can pick it up quick.
...Guess my professors were more right than they even knew.
16. ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF ACADEMY FACULTY IS PROTECTING STUDENTS FROM THAT WHICH MIGHT DO THEM HARM. THIS APPLIES TO GRADUATES AND ASSISTANTS AS WELL. TELL US HOW EQUIPPED YOU ARE TO DO THIS.
Um, well... I think the Academy knows more about that than I do. It was your away team that brought me back here with that job offer. But it might be because I survived a gauntlet of monsters mostly alone with nothing but what I could find. So if I have to fight monsters, I can do that. ...I also have plenty of deescalation training to try to disarm conflicts before they get violent.
17. WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE TO PROTECT CURRENT STUDENTS?
Time. Energy. And my life, if it comes down to it. That's what I swore to do in Raccoon City. It's the same here.
